Software Developer / Technical Support

Are you looking to challenge yourself in a multifaceted I.T. role? Consider joining the I.T. team at Western Stevedoring for exposure to a diverse range of technologies and IT disciplines in our Software Developer / Technical Support role.

Western Stevedoring provides general stevedoring contractor services throughout BC and is operator of Canada’s largest break-bulk terminal; Lynnterm, North Vancouver. On Vancouver Island, Western also provides terminal and stevedoring services to the break-bulk trade as well as cruise ship services at Ogden Point in the Port of Victoria.

The Software Developer/Technical Support position is responsible for supporting existing information systems and developing new applications, reports and middleware to integrate and enhance these systems. This position is also responsible for providing technical support in a predominantly Microsoft environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop system integration solutions and enhancements for corporate database applications
  • Deploy, upgrade and support client desktop hardware and software
  • Provide help desk support and assist end users to use technology effectively
  • Troubleshoot application, hardware and network problems

Qualifications

You are a graduate of an IT-related program and have 1 or more years of related work or co-op experience in a multi-disciplinary environment . Your technical skills include the following:

  • Business application development in a Microsoft SQL Server environment
    • T-SQL, Visual Studio (VB.net, C#.net)
  • Setup and administration of Windows client operating systems and hardware
  • Microsoft Office proficiency including VBA development
  • Basic understanding of IP protocols and networking principles
  • Advanced English language communication skills (oral and written)

Experience in any of the following would be an asset:

  • VBA/ADO (Access), Crystal Reports programming
  • SQL Server administration
  • VMWare vShpere administration
  • Exchange and Active Directory administration
  • Network hardware administration (switch, router, firewall, WiFi)
  • Microsoft Dynamics NAV (formerly Navision) and Camelot Software 3Plink WMS administration
  • Knowledge of industrial wireless handheld and vehicle mount computers
  • knowledge/experience in the logistics or transportation industry

This position provides remote and on-site support to our various locations from our North Vancouver and Richmond operations. Access to a vehicle is required. A key asset is the ability to multi-task, work independently with minimal supervision and contribute actively to team objectives.

Accounting/Administrative Assistant

Western Stevedoring has an immediate opening for an Accounting/Administrative Assistant. This full-time position will facilitate the delivery of service requirements to a dynamic break-bulk terminal and stevedoring operation. Take advantage of this exciting opportunity to work with a team of skilled and experienced employees who support a diverse set of business needs.

The successful candidate will have completed post-secondary education in the accounting field and preferably three year’s work experience. An in-depth knowledge of MS Office products and a basic understanding of database concepts is essential for this role. This position assists in the full range of accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, customer invoicing, longshore payroll entry and labour costing. The Accounting/Administrative Assistant also supports the administration team in the delivery of event planning/coordination, reception coverage and other administrative projects as required.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential in the daily interactions with customers and employees from all areas of the organization. The ability to work independently and show initiative in problem solving will enable the candidates to perform effectively in a demanding environment.
