HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGEMENTWestern Stevedoring is Federally regulated and in full compliance with the Canada Labour Code administered by Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) on Terminals and Marine Transport (ship safety) on vessels. Western Stevedoring has developed a strategic Safety Program encompassing safety training, safe work procedures, accident investigation and emergency response. Occupational Safety & Health Committees play an active role in safe work practices and procedures. Western also participates in Joint Industry Safety & Health meetings between maritime members and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (I.L.W.U) and the Waterfront Foremen Employers Association (W.F.E.A.). SAFETY TRAININGAll longshore personnel receive their initial Safety Training through the B.C. Maritime Employers Association (B.C.M.E.A.). Western's in-house training encompasses WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Propane Certification, Accident Investigation and Safety & Health Committee training. Job specific training is also undertaken with Regular Workforce Employees. |
